Playing Catch-up

I'm not very good at remembering this LJ thing. For anyone who thought I must be posting on a filter that they're not on... no, I really haven't posted anything since April. So here's a run-down of some random things going on in my life:

. [info]colmunson will be losing his job soon. It's a wonderful opportunity for him to find his dream job and I'm trying to support him in whatever he wants to do. I started thinking about contingency plans, and one possibility is that we could be moving in the next year if he got a job that was too far away to commute. We haven't done anything to the house in the past 5 years and it needs a lot of work, so I'm giving up on fallacious notions that we'll fix it up ourselves and hiring contractors. So far I've interviewed electricians and siding and roofing people (for the garage) and a custom cabinet maker... I have a painter (for the exterior... interior painting is one thing I CAN still do if I can just get someone to take care of the kids long enough) and a guy who does bathrooms and a flooring company coming to the house this week. I still need to call masons, plumbers, and a structural engineer or authority on wet basements. I made a Microsoft Project project to keep track of it all. Yes, I know I'm a geek.

Hopefully researching my options should continue to be fun... I found a slate sink countertop on craigslist and a 2-year-new enameled iron sink that measure-ment-wise should fit under it for the kitchen. I'm contemplating a dual-flush toilet for the bathroom and trying to weigh whether the expense is worth it.

T is walking and starting to talk. He points out important things like book, doggie, kitty, ball, milk, banana (generic word for food - he eats 1-3 bananas a day) and requests for up, outside, and more. Some of those words are only intelligible once you've been around him for a while... like "dah-dgog" is doggie and "meh-meh" is his sister's name(not to be confused with "nah-nah" which is banana or I'm-so-hungry-I'll-eat-anything-except-what-you're-trying-to-offer-me-now).

E is in acrobatics instead of ballet for the summer and seems to be enjoying it. It doesn't hurt that NJ is in the class with her. She still loves all sorts of movements... this morning was busy doing jumping-jacks while I was trying to get her to put her shoes on. She's going to Kindergarten in the fall and I'm really not sure what all that's going to do to us.

Asatru - Still trying to do one Asatru thing a month, although sometimes it's more than one or we miss a month. Hoping to read more of the Rune study books soon. We plan to go to ECT.

SCA - Went to Southern Region Warcamp this past weekend. It's funny... I'm completely out of all the gossip and everything but still it was so easy to catch up because at the heart things don't really change. I had a great time working Troll. I was really glad I could find something useful to do that didn't involve abandoning T.

No Pennsic this year. No major textile projects going on. Just mostly house stuff and keeping up with the kids. Rather boring, but necessary for a while I'm afraid.

I think time just moves different in the SCA. I don't even know how many times I've found myself picking up with people right where we left off at the last Pennsic, or even more dramatically, the last Pennsic I actually attended (gaps anywhere from 2-4 years).

That's very true... and can be a very positive thing sometimes and a very negative thing at other times. Occurrences this weekend reminded me how stuck in their own ways of thinking most people are. Things that happened 5, 10, or even 15 years ago (dare I even admit to being old enough to have been in the SCA that long??) still come up in conversation and color how we interact.

Well, it was good to see you and catch up for a bit! T is quite the sturdy little guy. And E definitely got taller.

I'm sorry we didn't get to talk more! Our camp was much more hectic on Saturday than any of us had anticipated. It was wonderful that so many people gathered there, but also a bit stressful.

You're a geek in the exact same way I am...Access DB's for event packing lists, and MSProject files for house work...yep, right there with ya!! LOL

Was great to see you at the event this weekend. So nice to know we've got playmates for our kidlets. Hopefully you don't move too far away. It would be sad to lose the ability to visit our friends as often as we do! :)

Assuming we're not more than an hour's drive away I think we could still make plans the way we do... NJ and E would just have to forego the joint ballet classes, but that may happen in the fall anyway.

Sometimes it's tough to keep up with LJ!!

I can understand using DB's for keeping track of everything...it's something I've come to appreciate over the last couple of years, as we get busier and busier, and I become more forgetful as a result, LOL. ;)

If you need someone to watch the little ones for a day or so while you paint and fix up interior stuffs, we are always open to watching them for you. Just let us know.

We really should try and coordinate some kind of rune study together!!
I've gotten a few new texts over the past couple of months that, once I finish reading...I'd be happy to lend to you. Some are out of prints, but still recommended by some of the more scholarly folks I've been in touch with. We should get in touch with each other via phone sometime soon, lol. =)

Don't try to lend me anything too soon... I've been going at my reading really slowly and have to finish at least one of the 3 rune books I've started before starting another! :)

Thanks for the offer to watch the kids... at some point we might just take you up on it, but it would probably only be if it looked more certain that we will be selling the house. For now we're just trying to plug away at it bit by bit.

At this point I'm thinking we should pick our rune study night after I know what E's schedule will be after starting school. Her dance class night will change and I'll want to work around that. But as soon as I know, we should get those dates on the calendar pronto!!
